Potato Planting

Now that our vegetable beds are in (see my post here on my blog) we have room to put things in the ground for the summer. The potatoes should have actually gone in the ground in February or early March at the latest, but here we are in mid-April and I just now got them in the ground! Oops, don’t tell the gardening police!

The seed potatoes are Red LaSoda and while I’m unsure what the two plants I bought at the farmers market are, my suspicions are they are the same variety as the guy I bought them off of said they were just ‘red potatoes’.

The garden is a bit far from the house but it was the best flat and sunny space we had.

Growing up my parents grew potatoes for several years. I remember my dad planting them and perhaps the harvest but I don’t really remember where they stored them or when we ate them. It has been great having sweet potatoes on hand this year from last years harvest, so I can imagine that having regular potatoes will be just as nice to have stored up.

We’ll see how this little experiment goes!

They were sooooooo good! Stored them in our closet and under our bed. Only place we had. Ate the for weeks. Fried ( yes with Crisco lard), mashed, and boiled. Never use lard since your Dads heart surg.
