Naples Botanical Garden – October 2012

For Gracie’s birthday, she very much wanted to spend the afternoon at the Naples Botanical Garden so off we went, with my mom and dad in tow. We had a wonderful time, and I even managed to get a few photos of the beautiful landscape.

You know you are a garden nerd when you go to a celebrated local landmark and start thinking about how *you* might edit it, what you would add. My big contribution would be Passiflora. Yes, I am obsessed, but it truly is one of the most amazing things we can grow here, the flowers look like something out of fantasy, and once the vine goes, it sort of takes care of itself. I couldn’t believe there weren’t any at the garden. But maybe it’s in the works!

And I would create a “possibilities” garden- all the things you think you can’t grow down here in this climate or in pots (everyone own here has a lanai!). And a big sunflower garden. And… well.., I’ll stop there. The truth is, I feel very very blessed that we have such an AMAZING garden just a few miles from our house. Truly. It’s an amazing place.

Here are some photos:

Love the indigo pea vine (to the left of the candy corn plant sign). And Gracie looks like a future gardener!

[…] on Sunday we took a trip to the Naples Botanical Garden for Gracie’s birthday (her choice) so I have a ton of photos of that adventure up over on Sprout. I’ll probably be posting a more Gracie-centric account of that day in the next few days […]
