On Friday, Tom and I made the drive four hours north to visit Epcot Center at Walt Disney World. My parents were up there with Gracie on vacation, so we decided to drive up for the day and spend time with them. It was a happy coincidence that the Epcot Flower & Garden Festival happened [...]
The kale has brought an abundance of aphids to the garden. The lady bugs are chopping down on them and leaving babies behind, like this little guy hanging out on a lettuce leaf. This is Rosie, we got her last weekend. Read about her and her friends over at Backyard Ramblings. I am just a [...]
Chris and I went on a tour of the garden yesterday evening. Things we covered: new hydrangea, bees, deer eating plants, bee balm, checking out the black swallowtail caterpillars, our grow out area, compost bin, and the giant pine that fell down for what I’m calling no-good-reason. Enjoy!

Last Saturday we made a trip out to a family farm not to far from home. I’d heard of the name before but never really investigated it. My wife recently changed her diet and was looking for some good local ingredients and found this place through a church friend. If you aren’t careful you’ll miss [...]
Last week my mom, sister-in-law, and niece and nephew were in town for a visit so Chris and I took them to Brenham, Texas, home of Blue Bell Ice Cream for a tour of their factory and then a stopover at the Antique Rose Emporium to see what that was all about. I had read [...]
Sorry for the absence last week. Tuesday my son busted his lip open and a trip to the ER ensued and then Wednesday was Halloween and trick-or-treating ensued. Earlier this year, my wife mentioned about expanding the garden. It’s not much of an expansion, but at at around 10ft at the widest point, it will [...]
It seems like forever since I been on here. Its been even longer since I’ve done any writing on my own blog. The summer heat has taken its toll on the garden. The past several weeks it have been in neglect. With the temperatures reaching the 100s, I’ve been hiding out indoors most evenings watching [...]
I spent much of this evening outside watching Zoe ride around in her “shiny new car,” (its like a year and half old and she still calls it new) and conversing with the neighbors. With it being the longest day of the year, we took full advantage of the sun. We traded stories of summer [...]
As I mentioned last week, we spent six days at Walt Disney World here in Florida. One good thing about going away on vacation, at least for me, is it gives me a different perspective on my garden. When I got home, I was able to look at all my plants objectively and I realized [...]
On my way to pick up my kids from their grandparent’s house yesterday evening I was trying to decide what to write about for Wednesday. After all, it’s only Tuesday, right? Then I got to thinking, I totally missed my day to write. Oh well. So I figured I could sneak this post in here [...]
After all the shenanigans in my garden out back, I also take care of a plot at a local community garden. This is the second year the garden has been operational and the second year I have taken on maintaining a plot there. Last year was pretty successful as I ended up growing two 5 [...]
My brother did a tour of his garden not too long ago and I thought it would be a good idea to borrow his idea and do a similar one of mine. It’s 11 minutes so I hope you enjoy my voice! Oh, and please watch some of it; the video took 6+ hours to [...]
