And the winner is… / winter preps

Since no one commented that was eligible, there was no winner for the very simple seed giveaway. I’ll put them back in my collection for later.

This past weekend was exceptionally chilly with highs in the upper 50s. A bit odd for early October. It could be foreshadowing for a wet and cold winter compared to last years very mild one.

With that, I have started to whip the greenhouse into shape. There are already some residents taken refuge. I potted up a few coneflower plants that were in the way in the front yard. I also made more cuttings of the rosemary. The three I did way back in spring bit the dust a few months ago due to lack of water and being gone on vacation.
I’ve also started five different types of lettuce, spinach and some bunching onions. The lettuce I grew through winter last year got frost damaged since it was planted without protection, and though it pulled through, I’d like to not have that happen again.

Got some cover crops in a few of the raised beds. Buckwheat, oats and peas. We will see how that goes.

Hope to get lots more planted in the coming days.

Does anyone know where I can purchase potato onions? The few places I know of are sold out.

Are you making winter preparations?

Potato onions? I’ve never heard of them. I just bought some sweet onions to plant at HD tonight. I didn’t buy much because we still have so much in storage.

Winter prep? Of course….and always! Ugh…I have too much to do. I’d like to just take a week off work to do yard work.

Mom gave me a few last year. They did great but when I replanted this year they rotted quickly.
