A Trip to the Antique Rose Emporium

Last week my mom, sister-in-law, and niece and nephew were in town for a visit so Chris and I took them to Brenham, Texas, home of Blue Bell Ice Cream for a tour of their factory and then a stopover at the Antique Rose Emporium to see what that was all about. I had read some here-and-there reviews about the place, some negative reviews from people complaining about weeds in the pots (gimme a break) and people visiting during the wrong time of year, aka: summer when it is too hot for anything. Perspective, people!

Anyway, we found the place in beautiful shape for early spring and I really enjoyed it. The shop is located in Independence, Texas which is between Brenham and Navasota, which is really in the middle of ranches and cattle country. Lots of wide open spaces for roaming backroads, scouting worn out buildings, and wildflowers.

Here’s some of what we saw there:

I may have gotten a little excited when I saw the entrance!

A green anole…they are friendly little lizards!

I absolutely loved this shed; I would love to have one like this! I just imagine it filled with tropicals!

You can see the rest of the set here.

We left with a Nacogdoches/Grandma’s Yellow rose and an Engelmann’s Quest. In addition we left with some perennials and herbs to add to the flower beds too.

It was definitely worth visiting especially if you were planning on being in the Brenham area for the day.

That was fun!!! I needed the truck to load up though. But I couldn’t have planted most of the stuff I wanted, too much shade here.
