I have a “First Kiss” Hibiscus in my garden that I picked up several months ago at Home Depot. The blooms are an apricot color, and the longer they are open, the paler they get. If we get a cool snap, sometimes the blooms will last two days (usually Hibiscus only bloom for a day).
Tom noticed that some of the buds started out a dark pink so he grabbed his camera one day and took several shots of the flower opening throughout the day, trying to chart the transformation from pink to peach.
I just googled it and from a super quick glance it looks like that it’s the veins in the petals that change color. Regardless, it still seems incredibly magical to me how things change in the garden, and how some plants need weeks to grow and bloom and others seem to do the same amount of growing and blooming in just a few hours.
Plants fascinate me.
